We know today that extreme stress can cause many and varied emotional and physical problems. Many individuals subject themselves to much more stress than is healthy. Additionally, we rarely engage in the kinds of self-care that diminish the negative effects of stress. To minimize the effects of stress, (1) eat properly, (2) exercise, and (3) get enough sleep. If you are doing all of these and still experience stress-related problems, consider learning a form of mindfulness and / or relaxation training. Learning how to quiet the mind and pay attention to the body can have powerful positive effects on stress and many other pathologies, as well.
